In the last couple of weeks ago I showed you how to repair a broken glass windows of the house. But what if you have dual pane windows? The process the same? Well, more or less, except for some changes. So, let the repair process just to check, and I am on the differences in dual-pane windows.
When it comes to dual-pane windows, one of the first things that comes to mind to start, window frames are vinyl instead of aluminum. When it comes toDual-pane windows, you can aluminum or vinyl frames, depending on the year the house was built. Double-pane glass was popular in 1980, but vinyl frame will not really capture up to 1990. So, if your home less than 10 years, chances are you have vinyl framed windows. In any case, the differences are. Suppose you have a sliding aluminum frame windows with dual pane glass. The procedure to remove the frame from the opening of the door and the glassis the same with the single window.

The differences are, first, enters the glass structure about twice as wide as a single pane windows. The single-window glass went 1 / 4 "in the surrounding gum. The dual pane usually goes 1 / 2" rubber. So when both sides of glass was broken, you're going to have to order a new IGU (insulated glass units) from a local glass shop. You're going to want to change the width, height, overall thickness and possibly the knowindividual glass thickness. The best way to get the dimensions are the width and height measurement of rubber on rubber, write these numbers down. Then remove the plate from the opening and placed on a table, as we have with the single-window. Remove the screws from opposite corners and pull the frame. You can see how the glass goes into the surrounding rubber. If 1 / 2 ", then you want to add 1" for width and height is measured previously (2.1 "twicePage = 1 "). Then you measure the total thickness of the unit by removing the tire from the rim of the glass.
Generally, this size 1 / 2 ", but not always. There is a metal spacer that the two panes of glass broken. Note the color, so you can get the same color in the new IGU. And 'a silver or bronze. If you have the same size spacer is necessary to have the glass shop to get the thickness of each piece of glass in double glazing. "If the old glass unit is 1 / 8 in on eitherPages, and the total thickness of the machine is 1 / 2 ", then they are with a 1 / 4" spacer. When the glass is 3 / 32 "on both sides, have a 5 / 16" spacer. If you do not have the right thickness of spacer do not care, you can take, the more often the "glass, they will automatically be a 1 / 4" 1 / 8 spacer.
If you get the new IGU home, the installation is the same as the single window. Well, what happens if one side of the IGU has been broken? Many times the outer pane breaks, but withinThe disc is fine. You can order a new IGU just like us, or if you are the adventurous type, you can only use a single panel of glass to replace broken and orders. I will explain how to do it, then I'll tell you the things that can go wrong. After removing the plate on the table with the surrounding structure, you see a black rubber type substance around the edge where the spacer is applied. It is a butyl sealant, and you have to separate the brokenGlass from this butyl. The best way to do this is to take a knife with a new blade and break the butyl where it meets the shards of glass. Then take a new blade, and push in the area where you sparated the butyl from the glass. You do not want the blade to be mounted on a metal saw. With his hand, looked back and forth as you work your way around the rim of the glass. This should allow you to remove the glass.
Once done, lay rags on the propertyPiece of glass to catch any debris, and scrape the surface of the spacer that the contact will be the new glass. Use a spatula. Then, remove the rags and dirt. If you are willing to put the new glass, clean the inside of a good piece of glass that did not remove. Remember, if you install the new glass, dirt or fingerprints are permanently sealed inside. To clean it very well and control it from all angles. Do the same from the new glass, which iswill be inside the double glazing. Then run a thin bead of clear silicone along the entire perimeter of the spacer. Set the new glass on the spacer and use finger pressure on the glass to keep the around. Then silicon all the way, coming from the side and run silicone around the side where the glass and spacer meet. Cover the window with just over 24 hours. You do not want to touch the IGU 24 hours. The silicone must cure. After 24 hours you can assemble the unit andreinstall it in the opening.
There are some things that can go wrong. The first is to leave marks on the inside of the glass. Once you seal the glass, you can not clean what's between the panes. The other thing that relates to the formation of condensation between the panes. If you have even the slightest break in the silicone seal around the glass, it is likely that you are committed to providing moisture to see if, as the nights are cold and hot days. You will have to decide whether youare quite confident in your ability to do the job properly, or if it is worth paying the extra money to get it done for you. Just because you're a person who does not pay, does not mean you have not yet encountered the same problems. The difference is, they have their IGU for a minimum of 1 year warranty. I have many units over the years, had received the notes from the glass. The nice thing is, the manufacturer can not in question, because there is no way anyone else would have done if they havethem.
OK, what happens if the window frames are vinyl instead of aluminum? Now, the main difference that the glass of a window vinyl is no longer the rubber seal around the edge. You may not remove opposite corner screws and separate glass from the frame. What they do is put or silicone adhesive on the edge of the frame where the glass rests. This is what holds the glass in the frame, then turn into a second parked on all four sides of the glass. So, you must removestops, then invert the plate and break the seal the glass to the frame with a knife. Wear gloves during this process. If only one side of the IGU is broken, do not even think to repair one side. You will never get that IGU out of the frame, without the other piece of glass in the process. But on the bright side, you can stop without departing from the drive when you remove a slider. You can then measure the size of the glass and thenthe new IGU. Sun may need to delete temporary cover your window. The same applies to the fixed part of a slider or a panoramic window. Before you install the new IGU, and you need to clean the lip that had the tape or silicone, and apply silicone or tape. In both cases it works.
It turns out that replacing an IGU in an aluminum frame window is much easier than a vinyl window. But in any case, you can do it yourself and save a few bucks.
